Grounding Mats or Grounding Bed Sheets – Which one should I choose ?

I had a call today from a lovely lady called Anette.  She was looking for help and advice on Grounding / Earthing, but like everyone without expertise in this area, she was struggling to get sensible solid help and advice.

She finally after trying to get through to a few other companies got through to us.  The other companies either didn’t answer or she could not find a number to get through to them on.  This was because some were in the USA and actually they were really Chinese based and not even in the USA.

Even the “Most Trusted UK Supplier” and according to Google there are two of them, neither give you their phone number to call…..  That tells you something really important too.

They want your business, but they don’t want you to bother them with any questions.

But we answered Annette’s questions as we always do and she went away very happy with confidence in what she had learned.  45 minutes later she called back to pace an order because she wanted to do it over the phone and not online.  In the end human contact remains very important in any business.  As an e commerce company, we can do either and we want you to have the best experience possible when coming to us for advice or to buy grounding / earthing products.

We really do get it…..

When you are new to Earthing or Grounding it’s difficult to choose the right product for your needs, because there are so many out there to choose from and frankly it’s really confusing. That’s where we come in, as this really frustrates us too……

Everyone is telling you something different and who do you believe ?   Who do you trust ?

What we can tell you is that we are a British Company who manufactures our products in the UK with UK people.

We see every day Google ads for “The Best Earthing Bed Mats reviewed” and the “Top 10 Grounding Bed Sheets tested – Find out which is the best !!”

Then when you click on the link it takes you to a site that says it’s reviewed them all, but when you look at the products, they all come from Amazon and they are all Chinese made with completely mad manufacturers names….

So did they review them ? Well by now you already know the answer to that…….. No they didn’t. It’s just hard pushy marketing to get you to trust them……

They are there just to drive you to their website and hope you buy from “The Behemoth” that is Jeff Bezos’ Amazon.

 

 

The reviews on each product are laughable and clearly AI generated to basically sell you as a “Grounding Newbie”,  Amazon products.

No wonder people get confused about what to buy and to be fair it’s somewhat sad they resort to this kind of approach.

So what makes Sleep Earthed different I hear you say ?

Well for a start we are the only UK manufacturer of Grounding Bed Sheets & Pillowcases, whereas all the rest out there and we do mean ALL THE REST, are made exclusively in China.

Is that a bad thing ? Well no it isn’t, but what we have been seeing since early 2025 is that the Chinese have changed tactics and decided to come directly to the world market and flood it with their products.  Since Donald Trump became president in 2025 and imposed tariff’s on all Chinese companies supplying the USA, the Earthing marketplace has become really crowded and confusing.

It’s called dumping and the Chinese are absolute masters at it.   Steel, Cars, Consumer Electronics, Toys, Clothes and the list goes on…..

We sell our products on quality and also the fact we understand what we are making, testing and selling.  And we do it really well………

There are lots of Earthing / Grounding websites that look like they are based in America or Britain, but when you look a little closer they are all Chinese.

There are tell tale signs though – 15-30 day delivery windows, no telephone number to call and no information about a returns policy or company address if what you buy isn’t suitable.

What you should look for in a reputable Earthing company is, do they give you the below information easily ?  If they do then they are likely to be a good company to supply you.

• Telephone number so you can call them
• A company address
• A returns policy
• Reviews that are moderated by Feefo / Reviews.io / Trustpilot as they are independent companies – beware of fake reviews that the companies write themselves……

Why should I trust your opinion ?

Well this is a really good question and by reading this article you can easily decide…….

Firstly I’m the MD of Sleep Earthed and also a Qualified Electrical Engineer.  You won’t find technical people like me at our competitors who can cut through the hype and give you sensible honest information.

Can you trust me to give you accurate quality information about the products out there on the market ?

Yes of course !  We have been in the e commerce business for 23 years and we know what customer service and loyalty means. We have also been making grounding products here in the UK since mid 2020, so we know our products and also our competitors products very well.

Is this important ? Well yes it is because no matter how slick the website is, if you choose a product that’s not going to work as well as you wanted or expected, you are going to get upset and rightly so.

We had to stop gifting the chocolate bars, as we had complaints that they melted when sent via couriers – Who knew chocolate melts !

So finally……. What Should I Buy ?

So the big question – Should I buy a Grounding Mat that goes on the bed and is covered up by another bedsheet or an Earthing / Grounding Bed Sheet ?

   

This now really is a case of personal preference.

Grounding Mats That Go on the bed….. ( Top picture above )

Why is that ?   Well certainly at Sleep Earthed, we feel that they don’t offer you a good enough contact to the earth in the way that a grounding sheet does.  Why ? Well because you are covering the mat with a regular bedsheet that acts as a barrier between you and the earthing / grounding mat.

The mats also tend to be made from a conductive leatherette – Basically its a vinyl product impregnated with a conductive carbon.

If you are old enough to remember vinyl seats in cars, American diners and plastic school chairs, you know how sticky and sweaty they get.

Translate that to your nice bed and well maybe its not going to be that comfortable. Especially in the summer …..

The only way the body can become earthed is if you use perspiration / moisture to bridge the barrier created by putting a sheet on top of the vinyl earthing / grounding mat.

But there are people out there who say putting a bedsheet over and earthing mat or earthing sheet is fine.

This is where we heavily disagree, covering up an earthing product so you don’t have direct skin contact is pointless.  You may as well not have the product at all.

The reason the conductive mats came into being was that people wanted to use their own bedding and the fact that the regular organic cotton earthing / grounding bed sheets have a maximum 2 year life span.

So it’s a bit of a trade off as with most things in life – A leatherette mat under your top sheet which will have a longer life span, but may not be as comfortable or offer the benefit of earthing your body as well as a conductive organic cotton sheet, that you sleep directly on.

That’s a fact because we’ve tested it…….

Organic Cotton Grounding or Earthing Bed Sheets rely on you sleeping directly on the Silver threads interwoven into the organic cotton sheet and becoming earthed this way.  You can find these all over the web and there are some silly cheap ones out there which may not actually be very good quality or contain any silver in the threads.  So what about the silver content in the sheet ?  Is more silver better ?

Well lets explain that one away easily.  No manufacturer puts actual silver threads in their products, because pure silver threads are prone to snapping easily and after one wash would be useless. The black lines in the material above are the conductive silver threads.

So what they do, is use threads made from nylon which are then coated with silver. These are then interwoven into the conductive fabric so the sheets are able to be washed effectively.

You don’t need more than a 5% silver content if you sleep directly onto the bed sheet. So more silver isn’t better – That’s just marketing hype designed to trick you into thinking more is better.

So our advice to you as we make one and have tested the other, is go for the organic cotton sheet every time.

The alternative relies on you sweating in bed on a leatherette under sheet to make a good enough contact to get you earthed.  YUGH !

For us its a no brainer, but there are some people who say, I’ve got nice silk sheets and I don’t want an organic cotton sheet.  We if that’s the case sadly we can’t help you earth your body whilst you sleep, as there has to be some compromise somewhere.
